When it comes to building a big muscular chest, one of the most common problems that guys have is filling out the middle chest area of the inner pecs.
Now part of the reason for lack of inner pec development could be your genetics. The way your muscles naturally attach and your genetic structure play a huge role in how your chest will fill out and develop.
Some guys naturally have a pec gap where their chest muscles don't meet all the way in the middle. If this is the case than no exercise will fill in that middle chest area.
But regardless of your genetics, improvement is always possible. And when it comes to building up the inner chest you need to include exercises that focus on training your chest in the fully peak contracted position - such as the pec deck and cable cross over flys.
If you have access to an old school pec deck butterfly machine where you can bring your elbows together in front of your body - USE IT! This machine is awesome for developing the inner chest.
When you bring your elbows together in front of your body it forces the inner pecs to contract hard, thus helping to stimulate growth in that area.
But even if you don't have access to a butterfly pec deck machine, you can still do a similar exercise using cable cross overs.
Most guys will do cable cross overs with their elbows bent during the entire exercise and bring their firsts together in front of their body. Kind of similar to how a bodybuilder will hit the most muscular crab pose.
However, this position doesn't fully contract the inner pecs. But you can change that by adding an extra squeeze when your hands are together in front of your body. Just pause when your knuckles touching, extend your arms and straighten your elbows. By doing this you'll bring your elbows closer together and force an extra squeeze in your inner chest muscles.
You can even try it now while you are reading this - just move your arms like you are doing a cable cross over fly, then at the peak contraction position extend your arms and straighten your elbows while flexing your chest... You should feel an extra contraction in your middle chest area.
By doing this as a regular part of your chest workouts you'll be able to provide extra muscle stimulation to your inner pecs and help to develop them more.
