Different selves in DID can have very different roles. Da's role was the surrealist comedian and the resident Houdini, a masterful escape artist, valuing freedom and non-conformity.
Da emerged around age 4 but was consolidated by age 8 when 'he' was named Da Boy.
Da is one of the two males in the team and unlike Willie who identified as a straight male, Da identified as a gay man in a woman's body. Da was one of the two street kids (Marnie being the other) and a surrealist, a maverick. In my 20s Da was thought to be part of Carol (the doll/toy/performer) but had actually split from Carol around age 4.
The comedian's role is to avoid at every turn taking trauma seriously or personally. Ultimately all selves have to deal with the whole picture as it emerges, including their own.
This video is part of Da coming to terms with having DID and sticking with the team even if you're not actually a team player.
