Construction Training Fund (CTF) is providing opportunities for a lot of people to make their career in the building and construction industry, including cabinet makers like Alix Miller. Alix has had a lot of fulfilment out of her job as a cabinet maker and she has really enjoyed getting to do something related to woodwork and getting to work as part of a team.
The Apprenticeship and Traineeship Grant for Employers has lead to opportunities to be trained as an cabinet maker in the construction industry.

- Are good at maths, literacy, design and technology and manual studies such as woodwork
- Don't have any allergies to dust
There are a lot of great opportunities at the moment for cabinet makers within construction jobs. A typical working day may involve a variety of different tasks.
On the job you will often be:
- building and repairing custom or production type fixtures and furniture
- making or repairing furniture of solid timber, flat panel or timber-based products
- preparing drawings from specifications
- determining job requirements by examining drawing and specifications
- selecting and preparing timber and manufactured board and mark out
- cutting and shaping pieces using saws, chisels, planes, power tools and woodworking machines
- discussing projects with clients and drawing up detailed specifications
