Double Stops a la Stochelo Rosenberg
Stochelo Rosenberg is the king of gypsy jazz and his style closely emulates that of our hero Django Reinhardt.
Stochelo's playing is rich and full of great techniques and ideas we can use to help us in our own gypsy jazz guitar playing.
One of his trademark sounds is his use of 'Double Stops' which he uses when playing melodies and whilst soloing.
In this video lesson I show you some examples of where you can use this technique to give your playing that rich and lush sound.
1. In E minor a classic lick using double stops where you don't have to change finger position. Stochelo Rosenberg uses this lick in his beautiful composition 'For Sephora' so check that out if you haven't already.
2. In D minor you can use the same lick to play over the gypsy jazz classic 'Bossa Dorado' It's easy to navigate to as it falls right under your fingers when you fret a minor chord.
To get the most out of this sound make sure you use a fast and strong vibrato. Stochelo Rosenberg is a master of this type of vibrato and as guitar players we should always be using the guitar to play as soulful as possible!
