8. SOUNDBITE : (French) Denis Coutagne, curator Musee Grenet :
"Why there aren't Cezanne paintings in Aix. Well we have a few, some donated by the state, some donated by an anonymous donor who has given two watercolours which are going to arrive this summer. But basically Cezanne wasn't loved neither in Aix nor in Paris, Paris hasn't put much effort also. "

10. SOUNDBITE : (French) Denis Coutagne, curator Musee Grenet :
"Cezanne isn't loved because first of all he is son of a banker who wasn't loved, when people went to see his paintings he tells them to go to hell, he is a violent character, doesn't search for company, all this counts. Above all, though, taste for art in end of 19 century Aix favours a provencal painting, lacquered, quiet, you can detect the objects well. How do you think a painter with such strong style, where shapes are not any more traditional, where colours are slashed into, pasted, could be understood in a small provincial town ? ".
11. Various of curator placing Cezanne's paintings and his last palette of paints into a safe
UPSOUND: (French) Denis Coutagne, curator Musee Grenet :
"This was Cezanne's last palette"
12. Various of Cezanne's studio "Atelier des Lauves".
13. SOUNDBITE : (French) Michel Fraisset, deputy director Tourist Office:
"These authentic places talk today to the emotions of visitors, to their hearts not to their reason. As one steps in here is seduced by the atmosphere, you get the impression Cezanne spirit is still here. And someone who discovers the objects he has portrayed, this is a pilgrimage, a coming back to the sources".

18.SOUNDBITE : (English) Martha Hochschwender, Tourist from US
" To me the most inspirational is seeing the surroundings, oh I didn't get to see the art in the other buildings, so there isn't much of his paintings for me to have seen right now, but I just love it up here, it's beautiful".

LEAD IN :
Impressionism and post impressionism art movements continues to draw interest from the public whether it is a museum exhibition or an auction.
Part of the spell comes from the landscapes and the places these artists have portrayed in their paintings.
The provencal town of Aix en Provence did not approve of the art by a local painter Paul Cezanne during his lifetime.
But now just over a century after his death, Cezanne's works now enjoy an more appreciative audience in his hometown and his work attracts thousands of tourists to the region each year.
But fans of the artists work are often disappointed to find that few of his paintings remain here, with most gracing the walls of museum and art collection across in far flung cities.
It's expected to fetch up to $18 million.
