Heller v. District of Columbia | 1670 F.3d 1244 (2011)
Since the ratification of the Second Amendment, legislatures and courts have struggled to enact laws that don’t offend the fundamental right to bear arms. This struggle continued when gun owners took aim at gun regulations in Heller versus District of Columbia.
The district enacted new gun regulations. Several gun owners claimed the new regulations violated their Second Amendment rights.
Dick Heller and other gun owners challenged the district’s regulations in district court. Heller argued that the regulations impinged on his Second Amendment rights. The district court granted summary judgment in the district’s favor. The gun owners appealed to the D C Circuit.
