Out of state drivers license, florida immigration bill
In July 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1718 into law, which prohibits the issuance of a driver's license to anyone who does not provide proof of lawful presence in the United States. The law also specifies that out-of-state driver licenses issued exclusively to undocumented immigrants are invalid in Florida.
As a result of this law, driver's licenses from five states are no longer valid in Florida:
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Rhode Island
Vermont
If you are an undocumented immigrant who currently holds a driver's license from one of these states, you will need to obtain a different form of identification if you want to drive in Florida.
Drivers license in Florida
To obtain a driver's license in Florida, you must provide proof of identity, proof of residency, and proof of lawful presence in the United States. If you are an undocumented immigrant, you may be able to obtain a driver's license if you can provide a valid passport or birth certificate from your home country.
Florida invalidate out of state drivers license
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) has invalidated out-of-state driver licenses issued to undocumented immigrants from five states: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
These licenses are no longer valid for driving in Florida, and they cannot be used to obtain a Florida driver's license. If you are an undocumented immigrant who holds one of these licenses, you will need to obtain a different form of identification if you want to drive in Florida.
Birthright citizenship for children from undocumented parents
The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees birthright citizenship to anyone born in the United States, regardless of their parents' immigration status. However, there have been recent attempts to restrict birthright citizenship, and it is unclear whether these efforts will be successful.
If birthright citizenship is restricted, it would mean that children born in the United States to undocumented parents would not be automatically citizens. This would have a significant impact on these children, as they would not be able to travel freely, attend school, or work legally in the United States.
