Here's the story and clip on how I drowned my Yamaha dirt bike at Shenango Bayview ORV. It was definitely painful to rewatch the video and see what actually happened. To me, the airbox design on the YZ250, YZ450, WR250, and WR450s is an off-road flaw (no issues for track riding). Enjoy my misery!
How to drain water out of a dirt bike engine:
1. Cut engine off (if still on) - don't start with water in the cylinder
2. Drag it out of water
3. Check air filter to see if it's wet. If it's wet, you've probably taken in water
4. Pull spark plug (always carry tools in your pack!)
5. Start/kick the bike to drain water
6. Clear water from exhaust by holding the bike vertical with the exhaust pointing to the ground to drain any remaining water.
7. If you have a carb, bleed fuel out of bowl - no water in fuel!
8. Make sure your airbox, cylinder, and exhaust are all clear of water and then put the bike back together b
9. Try starting it. Hopefully no electronics were damaged when taking on water.
10. Change your oil and filter. Do this until it no longer looks milky (milky means water).
