*“Idle Worship” was written based on Hayley Williams' realization that she isn’t the person fans and people around her think she is. The celebrity aspect of being in that role led to people idolizing her.

*The title is a play on the phrase “idol worship”. By implying an “idle worship”, fans are challenged to not mindlessly accept celebrity culture and worship. Idle in this case meaning indolent and pointless as apposed to ‘Idol’ which is a person who is used as an object of worship.

*Taylor York said in an interview that he sampled wind howling through a building in the UK, then played the sample on a keyboard in the song.*Hayley said about the song: "It must be hard for a Paramore fan to hear that song… but people have to understand that I let myself down more than anyone else. I set myself up for failure! For starters, I lived in latex for those two years and looked like a damn superhuman. When depression hit me, I barely came out of my PJs. Writing ‘Idle Worship’ was the beginning of me finding my voice again."

*Hayley also said: "you have to be yourself, not the person some fans think you are, ‘Idle Worship’ was an important song on this record for those reasons. It stated who I was and how I felt people saw me. It helped me shed that old person once and for all".
