CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Another study says you might want to swap the tea to unsweetened, and ease up on the soft drinks, energy drinks or lemonade.
This study finds a possible connection between drinks with sugar and cancer, especially breast cancer.
This study on sugary drinks is published in the British Medical Journal. It looked at more than 100,000 adults.
Researchers followed them for just shy of a decade. They then assessed risk for all kinds of cancer, including breast and prostate cancer.
Researchers adjusted for other cancer risks such as age, gender, family history and smoking and still found that those who had more sugary drinks had an 18 percent increased risk overall for cancer. They had a 22 percent increased risk of breast cancer.
What's a bit disturbing is that this increased link was shown with only about half a cup a day of these sugary drinks.
It's important to note, that this doesn't prove a cause but they did factor in other risks, so it may be something to consider.
The other interesting finding is that they did not see this same link with those who got drinks with artificial sweeteners, but the study was conducted in France, and the authors say there wasn't a big population in their study that chose diet drinks
