In 1940, 700 small civilian vessels were sent to the beaches of Dunkirk in France to rescue British and French forces from the advancing Nazi army. These vessels rescued over 330,000 men and the Little Ships entered British Folklore. On 27 May 2010 50 of the remaining fleet wait in Ramsgate, Kent.
They are about to make their five-yearly commemorative return to Dunkirk. For the veterans who accompany the fleet this will be the last time.
