- It reached 100 degrees on Monday afternoon at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. It broke the previous record of 99 degrees in 1997.
- Monday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day. It will be blistering, with central and eastern North Carolina under heat alerts from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- An excessive heat warning is in effect for Cumberland, Harnett, Johnston, Sampson, Wake and Wayne counties until 8 p.m., where it could feel hotter than 110 degrees.
- Much of central North Carolina is in a heat advisory, where it could feel hotter than 105 degrees.
- Much-needed rain and a brief break from the heat is expected at the end of the week.
