“Fire's burning in the East, but noone cares in the West”, sings the Ukranian-German singer-artist Yuriy Gurzhy in his new song ‘Fly2Minsk’ which he recorded with the French-Belgian ‘Orchestre International du Vetex’. “Let it be an SOS”…
Enjoy this brand new videoclip by Orchestre International du Vetex, one of the most colourful brassbands within the European world music scene, and Yuriy Gurzhy, definitely one of the most socially committed artists from the Central-European musical scene (Rotfront, ex-Russendisko, The Disorientalists…).
Of course this song is about the peaceful fight for more democracy in Belarus. Thousands of innocent citizens have been arrested by security forces since the disputed election in August 2020, which sparked a mass protest movement against president Alexander Lukashenko.
Orchestre International du Vetex and Yuriy Gurzhy met up in the roam of the Creative Europe-project ‘2020Troubadours’ (www.2020troubadours.eu). For the recording of ‘Fly2Minsk’ they worked together with the Belarussian singer Veranika Kruhlova (Kriwi) and the Polish-French band Panienki.
‘Fly2Minsk’ is a song that wants to support all the people in Belarus in their struggle for more freedom and democracy. The benefits of the song will be donated to the independent NGO ‘Libereco, Partnership for Human Rights’ dedicated to the struggle for more human rights in Belarus and Ukraine. Donate Libereco here:
