Microsoft Excel Tutorial: Pivot Table Tutorial: How to Fill in Missing Dates & Ensure One Row Per Day.
Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In today's episode, we have a follow-up question to yesterday's topic. Yesterday, we discussed how to ensure there are no missing dates on the x-axis of a chart. Today, we'll tackle a similar issue with Pivot Tables.
The problem at hand is that there are missing dates in the Pivot Table, and we're not sure of the best solution. The goal is to have a row for every date, even if there were no sales on that day. One solution is to double-click the date field, choose "show items with no data," and then group the dates by days. However, this can be frustrating as it will show all dates in the year, even if they are not relevant to the data set.
Another solution is to manually add in a series of dates with zero sales at the bottom of the original data set. This can be time-consuming and tedious, especially if you have a large data set. However, it will force Excel to give us a row for every single date. If you have a better solution, please let us know and we'll feature it in a future podcast.
