The Sony A7R V gives you access to 8K video but the rolling shutter on it is notoriously bad. So I wanted to see how it handled motion and if shooting on a gimbal would make it less noticeable.
So I did a real world test by shooting this dance video and focused on a blend of shots, some more stable and some with quite intense camera motion.
Conclusion:
Other tests have shown that the A7R Vs 8K rolling shutter is borderline unusable when handheld but with a gimbal even with intense camera movements it actually looks very nice. I used to shoot alot with the A6300 and A6600 in 4K who also had a lot of rolling shutter (albeit not as bad) and much like them it really is manageable for action shots as long as it's on a stabiliser.
I was initially going to export this from an 8K timeline but since my main computer is on repairs I had to use a laptop and it wasn't able to handle an 8K export.
Since most of the 8K is uncropped I plan to upload this in 8K once my desktop is back. For now this is exported in 4K.
Some shots have been cropped in by 5-15%. A little bit of post stabilisation has also been applied to a handfull of shots.
