Andrew Goldstein is a research scientist, public speaker and anti-bullying advocate. He attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire where he earned 3 time All-Ivy League and 2-time NCAA Division 1 All-American honors as a lacrosse goaltender. He came out to his lacrosse team after his sophomore season, and made headlines in 2005 as ESPN called him the most accomplished male team-sport athlete in North America to be openly gay while competing. He was later drafted by the Boston Cannons of Major Lacrosse League, becoming the first openly gay man in the US to be drafted into a professional sports team and went on to play with the Long Island Lizards. In 2006, he was named to the “OUT 100” and was the subject of the GLAAD Media Award winning feature “Andrew Goldstein.” In 2013, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame. A biology and biochemistry major at Dartmouth, he completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 2011 and currently runs a research group studying prostate cancer at UCLA.
