Hundreds of thousands of protesters have gathered in Warsaw during the 34th anniversary of Poland’s first postwar democratic election. The protesters mobilized by the opposition hopes to end the nearly eight years of nationalist rule.
The protesters in large numbers marched with different inscriptions on banners.
The opposition has struggled to gain support despite widespread criticism and accusation of eroding the rule of law.
The government has however denied subverting any democratic norms insisting its aim is to protect traditional Christian values against liberal pressures from the West and to make the economy more fair.
