Who is the model who walked the most during this Fall Winter 2023-24 Fashion Week season?
Thinking of Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner? You might be very surprised that none of these names figures in the Top 10 of the models who walked the most this season, but surely on the Forbes list of the World's highest-paid models.
We often heard of the supermodels Irina Shay, Emily Ratajkowski, Mariacarla Boscono, Naomi Campbell as guest stars of a fashion show, but not so much about the New Supers, those who play such a strategic role in the fashion house and designer's messaging, running from city to city, runway to runway during an entire fashion month, twice a year, not counting the Couture and Resort collections. This is why I found interesting to dedicate this videos series, "Top 10 Models", which is published after every season of Fashion Week, to introduce the models who walked the most during the season.
If you are new to this channel, welcome and please let me introduce you my methodology behind this ranking. What is this ranking based on and what is not this ranking based on!
This is not a ranking established on personal appreciation, whatever is the face, race, age, height, weight; or on the fashion industry's standards, whatever are the models measurements, models catwalk, walking posture or model's following on social media. This ranking is simply established on the number of shows, and the number of times the models walked during a specific season of the fashion calendar.
New York, Milan, London and Paris, and more than a thousand fashion shows depending on the season, I count every single showing up of each model on the runways of the big four Fashion Weeks, verified by professional data as I'm a French fashion journalist based in Paris.
Since the release of the CFDA, Council of Fashion Designers of America, aiming to change the face of fashion through factual diversity and inclusion initiatives, it appears a long way has been covered since Anok Yaï made history as the second black model to open the Prada Fall Winter 2018's fashion show since Naomi Campbell in 1997.
Spring Summer 2019 Valentino's Couture show marked the fashion history not only because the Roman Fashion House returned to its historical roots by presenting the collection on the Spanish Stairs, two steps away from Via Condotti where Valentino Garavani opened his first store in Roma, but above all because of the casting of 39 Black models under the Creative Direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, an emotive fashion show closed by the one who paved the way to many: Naomi Campbell.
