A beacon of light shone into the sky above Nottingham as the culmination of a day of remembrance to mark the armistice centenary.
The event, part of the national Battle’s Over – A Nation’s Tribute commemorations, was held at the city's Victoria Embankment alongside the River Trent and included a programme of music and poetry in memory of the 14,000 men and women who lost their lives in the First World War.
Battle’s Over is a nationwide day of commemorative events marking the centenary of the end of the First World War and paying tribute to the millions killed or wounded in battle, and those on the home front who struggled amid pain and loss to help ensure freedom survived.
John Holmes from BBC Radio Nottingham hosted the tribute before the beacon was lit, followed by bells ringing out just as they would have done 100 years ago.
