Women's History Month was dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the achievements, contributions, and history of women throughout the world. The purpose was to highlight the often overlooked or marginalized roles that women had played in various fields, including science, literature, politics, and more. It aimed to raise awareness about women's accomplishments, promote gender equality, and inspire future generations.
Our carefully curated event was designed to spotlight the resilience and success of women leaders within the law enforcement profession. The program featured speakers who shared their experiences of overcoming obstacles in male-dominated fields and reaching new heights of success including Julie Parker a renowned PR professional, Jamilla Greely, the senior director of leadership development for Target. We also had a panel discussion presented by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) titled "Stressors Faced by Women in Law Enforcement," with Assistant Chief Deputy Gina V. Hawkins and Retired Chief Sonia Quinones and the privilege of engaging in a historical fireside chat with Chief Deputy Rhonda W. Anderson and Retired Sheriff Jackie Barrett Washington, both trailblazers in their own right as the first Black Female Deputy in Cobb County and the first Black Female Sheriff in the United States, respectively and with Michelle Wright, a reporter from WSB Radio moderating.
The event was accompanied by a delectable continental breakfast, sumptuous lunch provided by Carrabba's, and tantalizing desserts by Sugary Dozen, all served amidst impactful training and enriching takeaways.
