Ilocos Sur is a history buff's paradise—it is home to not one, but two UNESCO World Heritage Sites for you to enjoy! Vigan, the province's capital, is filled to the brim with ancestral homes, dedicated museums, and other historical landmarks that tell a colorful story of life in the Spanish colonial period.
The Vigan empanada is much in keeping with the Vigan people's love for vegetables in their cuisine. It is similar to a thin taco that is fried to a crisp, with vegetable and meat filling. Rice flour is used for making the crust or the shell. The galapong or rice flour dough is made a day before it is used.
Vigan Bagnet is the Northern Philippines pride cuisine. Bagnet is an Ilocano version of lechon kawali. Large chunks of pork leimpo, belly or pork sides, deep fried for at least two times until crispy. It is serve with kamatis and lasuna with bagoong nga munamon.
