Indonesian President Suharto was sworn in for another five-year term on Wednesday (11/3) as his nation confronts a falling currency, rampant inflation and rising unemployment.
The 76-year-old former army general pledged to devote his energies to arresting the economic decline that began last year with a drop in the value of the Indonesian rupiah and other Asian currencies.
Despite his age and past health concerns, Asia's longest-serving leader was re-elected on Tuesday after being granted emergency powers that some fear will be used against opponents.
