Welcome to Certol University, and today's topic how to read disinfectant labels. Disinfectants are essential to infection prevention, but information can be hard to locate on product labels. How do you find a product suitable for healthcare settings? And what should the label tell you for effective use? First, look for EPA registration. This verifies that product kill claims are backed by lab testing and reviewed by the EPA. Next, look for a product with TB kill. This is a CDC benchmark to identify intermediate level for disinfectants. It also means the product is suitable for use when blood and body soils are likely to be present. Double check the label to identify if product is ready to use or concentrate. For concentrates, use the exact dilution stated on the label to ensure effective pathogen kill. Wear gloves and other required PPE to handle chemicals. Check product expiration on each new container. When it comes to disinfectants, do not use expired product. Mark the expiration for diluted disinfectants on the secondary container. Testing determines the required contact or dwell time. In healthcare settings, always used the contact time required to kill TB. This is clearly marked on Certol ProSpray products. PPE protects against both chemicals and germs. Pathogens hide out in blood and soil. Use disinfectants that are labeled to clean and kill. ProSpray products are water-based and effective for both cleaning and disinfection. Use the two step method to clean first, discard wipes or paper towels, then reapply for required contact time. ProSpray products are safe and easy to use. EPA registered, tested, hospital grade disinfectant. Intermediate level with TB kill. Water based with good cleaning. Light lemon scent and gentle for surfaces.
