I’m super excited to be unboxing the new Apple AirPods 3! The AirPods 3 combine features from the regular AirPods and AirPods Pro. Coming in at $169 or £159, places them between the AirPods Pro at $249 and the regular AirPods now $129. In the box we have the usual setup guides and beneath that are the AirPods! Finally we have the USB C to lighting cable included. The AirPods 3 are kind of a hybrid of the regular AirPods and the AirPods Pro. Not just in price but also in features. Now featuring Spacial Audio, Apple’s immersive audio experience also seen in the higher end AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Adaptive EQ, that actively works in the background to tune your music for the shape fo your ears. Let me know in the comments, what do you think of the design of the AirPods 3? Charging case more similar to that of the AirPods Pro being more wide and short, rather than thinner and taller. I like both designs, what is most important to me is that the case is still very small and will easily fit in your pocket. Now have longer battery life, 6 hours per charge. With 24 additional hours provided by the charging case. Realistically the battery life can last several days to a week for most. The charging case is now MagSafe compatible. But can still also be charged with the included lighting cable and regular wireless charging pads, just like the iPhone. Importantly, the AirPods 3 are now sweat and water resistant. Great for working out but also when wearing the AirPods in the rain, which with the weather we have here in London, happens often. Looking more closely at the AirPods 3’s, the design looks kind of like a non-in-ear version of the AirPods Pro, missing that rubber tip. What this means is that like the regular AirPods, the AirPods 3 do not have that same tight seal you will have with the AirPods pros and other in-ear earbuds. This means they will also not passively block out sound as well and also may not be as secure in your ears. I will throughly test all of this along with all of it’s new features for my full review. But for now, let me put them on, pair them with my midnight iPhone 13 and give you my first impressions of the sound quality. I am particularly curious to hear what the low end performance is like. Pairing process is seamless and easy as ever. That is really what makes AirPods special, not just the sound but the convenience. Apple really does this like no other. In the ear they fit good. They do not feel as if they will fall out. The fit is solid but again won’t be as tight as compared to in ear headphones. First impressions of the sound are good. The music is very clear, I can hear the nuances and final details in my music. There is also plenty of volume, currently only listing at around 50%. The sound profile is quite neutral but still firebrand. There is a slight v shape in the EQ where the lows and high are slightly emphasised, creating a pleasing sound signature. In terms of bass I am pleasantly surprised. Though I can’t say it out performs in ear headphones that have that higher seal, the AirPods 3 definitely have some punch. The bass is clean and importantly does not overpower the other frequencies. Auto pause when AirPod is removed. Can also press the stem, shorted compared to the regular AirPods to take calls, pause and skip tracks.
