The Sputnik III is Spaceman Effects latest update to its venerable and beloved germanium fuzz pedal, with further key refinements to form and function. Just like previous iterations, it makes use of vintage Soviet transistors for pure vintage tonal elegance. The Sputnik III can be as controlled and sweet-toned as you can imagine, but kick in the Drift footswitch and all hell will break loose. Actually, if you tweak the Scan and Calibrate knobs right, just a LITTLE hell will break loose, with all sorts of oscillations and wild tonal instability riding shotgun along with that thick vintage fuzz tone the Sputnik is legendary for. And the Drift footswitch can now operate in either latching or momentary mode, for maximum real-time expressiveness. In this video we take it for a ride down the heavy psych highway, with the Sputnik III fuzzing up a lawsuit-era Japanese SG and a P/J bass (this pedal is way underrated on bass, by the way). The Drift switch is in momentary mode throughout, with the wild sounds popping in and out of the mix as we go. Following the opening musical number, we run through the Sputnik III's functions and extensive tonal capabilities. Strap in and get comfortable.
