In this video, we're going to demonstrate how to use MyFitnessPal app to track calories & calculate macros. This is a perfect tutorial for beginners or even someone who's at an intermediate level of their fitness journey.
But, before we get to the demonstration, we thought it's important for all newbies to understand the basics first so that a strong foundation is built.
It is important for everyone to know that there's a certain amount of energy that's needed by our body to perform basic activities like breathing, digestion of food, brain function, blood circulation etc. That energy is called Basal Metabolic Rate. If we add your activity (little to heavy) to the BMR, we get maintenance calories.
For losing weight, you need to consume less than your maintenance calories, and to put on weight or muscle, you need to consume more than the maintenance calories.
The food that you eat is measured in calories and your overall fitness or health is dependent on how many of these calories you consume per day.
And, since individuals are not able to do it by themselves, therefore, we have apps like MyFitnessPal to help them calculate & count their calories & macros to stay on track.
In other words, just like you maintain a journal, this is your food journal and a step towards a healthy life.
