Our boy Uncle Johnny wondering why many people think a gasket match is the key to more airflow. Well, maybe with a pushrod engine combined with other mods it does offer some benefits. Because there was a thing called pushrod restriction where the port got smaller to make room for the pushrod.
But, with a 4 valve head it is rarely the case! You can’t just open that head to the gasket and expect results. In-fact, it’s the exact opposite! Slowing the air down at the entrance is not the best idea at all. And, it’s not even to the correct size! Gasket companies are making gaskets seal, not making cross sectional area optimization as their goals. Don’t believe the hype.
