The Convent has confirmed an incursion Thursday morning where a Spanish warship issued two verbal challenges to Sovereignty, repeating it was in Spanish waters when challenged by HMS Sabre. The British Embassy in Madrid will be filing a complaint on the incident which coincided with a Royal Navy exercise in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters.

The Rayo P42 entered BGTW just before ten thirty when a Royal Navy Military exercise was due to start. The conduct military training involved HMS Chiddington, HMS Penzance and two PAC24 RHIBs as well as HMS Sabre, which left the exercise to challenge the Spanish warship and escort her out of Gibraltar Waters.

Footage obtained by GBC shows the Spanish vessel in local waters to the east of the Rock, motoring south. After the Spanish warship motored past Europa Point, a second incursion: this time a Guardia Civil vessel which also had to be shadowed until she left BGTW.
