On June 12, 1962 three prisoners escaped the heavily guarded prison island Alcatraz just north of San Francisco. Where did their handcrafted rubber boat take them that night? Their fate remains a mystery to this day.
This animation shows how the most likely escape path started 30 minutes to midnight. Going with the flow, the prisoners would have reached the northern part of the Golden Gate Bridge just before the turn of the tide.
