How Australian Farmers Tackle the Invasion of Nearly 300 Million Wild Rabbits
On Christmas of 1895, a farming household in Victoria, Australia, released 24 wild European rabbits into their property to host a rabbit hunting event with friends. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, some of these rabbits could not be recaptured and began to live in the wild. Within seven years, the rabbit population in the area exploded to at least 13,985 individuals. This rapid increase marked the European rabbit as the fastest spreading invasive species across the Australian continent to date.
In today’s video, join Nature Farm as we explore how Australian farmers deal with over 300 million wild rabbits that devastate their farms and crops.
