Ring Attack of Scrap Brain Act 2 from Sonic 1. The previous record was 247 rings, but thanks to Kaan55 discovering you could activate the slope glitch in this stage, getting max rings was then possible.
To get the slope glitch you must get in position, press left for 1 frame, hold right on the next frame, jump for one frame on the frame after that, then do a 1 frame jump a few frames after you land, just barely missing the ceiling.
You have a frame or 2 spare with the holding of left and right, and the timing of the second jump.
I use pausing just to make it easier to ensure I jump for only 1 frame.
