Food/Cuisine on Sun Princess is seriously good and you do NOT need to dine in a specialty restaurant to eat well. However, if you feel like treating yourself then I've made a video featuring the four specialty restaurants that I tried on my cruise back in March. They were ALL very good and in the end it boils down to personal taste. I'm a big fan of sushi/Japanese/fish and so those were my favorites. Meat lovers will probably enjoy The Butcher's Block more than I did, because there they serve so much steak that at times it feels like that is ALL you are eating! This restaurant is the brainchild of Italian master butcher Dario Cecchini (who has a similar restaurant/set menu in Tuscany Italy) and it's a really fun, convivial, social experience dining here and the food really does taste of the sun. But it was also a LOT of meat!
I score each restaurant out of ten, though again, remember, this is all about personal choice. I will say that the while the sushi was sensational at Sushi by Makoto, the location of the restaurant (in the atrium) made it feel really impersonal and I wasn't a fan of the lighting. Umai Teppanyaki was fantastic - the scallops and prawns were out of this world and our chef (and the entertainment he provided as he cooked in front of us) was fabulous. And I also enjoyed The Catch by Rudi very much indeed.
So, the 4 restaurants featured in this video are:
1. The Butcher's Block
2. Umai Teppanyaki
3. Sushi by Makoto
4. The Catch by Rudi
Watch to the end for outtakes of me finally tucking into the dangerous-looking sundae that I am holding at the beginning of the video!
