It is estimated that 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Although many individuals share the same diagnosis, each individual has a unique pattern of development and processes information from the world around them differently. There is nothing 'cookiecutter' about autism and the same should hold true for intervention approaches. To be effective, research suggests interventions must be comprehensive, individualized, and target the core challenges of autism including relating, interacting, and communicating. The approach is DIR. The technique is Floortime.
This workshop will focus on the Developmental, Individual Differences and Relationship-based (DIR/Floortime) approach, a theoretical and practical model for professionals to comprehensively assess and create intervention programs, tailored to the individual strengths and challenges of each child. Through hands-on labs, participants will learn to use interactions to strengthen each child's social, emotional, and intellectual capacities.Participants will leave this workshop with practical strategies that can be utilized immediately to build strong developmental foundations for even your most difficult cases.
Jennie Trocchio, Ph.D., is an autism educator and consultant with extensive experience evaluating, educating, and creating programs for individuals with autism and related disorders. Dr. Trocchio is currently the founder of Autism Education and Development Solutions, an organization created to address real life challenges with concrete solutions to realize each child's potential. Previously, Dr. Trocchio has worked in both public and private educational settings. She launched Florida's only DIR/Floortime School where she served as the lead teacher, director of education, and president of the board of directors.
She is an advanced DIR/Floortime provider, certified in K-12 special education, and endorsed in the areas of autism, reading, and ESOL. Committed to remaining on the leading edge, she actively seeks out the most progressive methods and experts in the field. Dr. Trocchio has considerable experience speaking at national and local organizations to groups of all sizes, consisting of both professional and lay audiences. She earned her BS and MS from the University of Miami in Special Education, and her Ph.D. from Barry University in Leadership and Special Education with a focus in autism.
