We’re chatting about the “Be”attitudes in this series and breaking down what Jesus taught and how the lessons are still relevant today.
The beatitudes are found in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount starting in Matthew chapter 5 which is at the beginning of his teaching as recorded by Matthew.
We’re doing a little play on words with the title to help us make the point that each of these is an attitude, both in our mind and in our heart, that we need to have and present to others.
The Beatitudes don’t promise laughter, happiness, success, or earthly prosperity. The “blessed” Jesus is talking about is the hope and joy we experience in our relationship with him.
This hope and joy dwells within and is independent of outward circumstances.
Blessed means more than happiness. It implies the positive state of those who are Christians.
Jesus taught important concepts that had been lost by the people of Israel and Jesus wanted to return them to a close relationship with God, not a distant one that was preached and taught by the religious leaders of the day.
