Every arrondissement in Paris has at least one food market or farmer’s market that springs up once or twice a week, usually on Saturdays on a large scale and on a weekday afternoon, early evening in a smaller scale, with less vendors. Besides a bounty of beautiful fresh produce and meats, food markets or the weekly marche offer items and services you can’t find in your typical French grocery store. The produce at a marche is going to be more diverse and plentiful than in a grocery chain. This is where I go to stock up on fresh herbs for the week. Besides your typical market offerings, like prepared food and clothes, French markets also have chair upholsterers working onsite. Go to a street market while in Paris even if just to enjoy a slice of ordinary French life.
