Local conditions were cloud, rain, and thunderstorms. As we neared the airport, I was expecting a couple of minor turns to put us on runway heading. Instead, we just flew straight towards the airport and as we got quite near it, we turned left (at about 7:00) and circled once before landing. Looking at FlightRadar24, we were high and fast on the first approach. I do not know the reasons for this. Visibility might have been inadequate, or we might have stayed higher for weather avoidance, or perhaps there was another reason.
Parts of Guadeloupe experienced serious flooding the following evening after another heavy rainstorm.
This was my longest flight on an A220 to date. It’s remarkably comfortable for a small aircraft, even over that distance. I would choose this over a 737 or any other airbus narrowbody in Air Canada’s fleet.
Update:
I have been led to believe that this might be an orbit rather than a missed approach. I have therefore changed the title. To any pilots or pros out there, I would be grateful for your feedback.
