In July 2022, Volkswagen Group China introduced its first prototype eVTOL aircraft named V.MO. The prototype is piloted remotely, does not carry passengers, has 10 propellers, 10 electric motors, high canard wings, fuselage and fixed-type landing gear. There are eight dedicated VTOL propellers located on two booms parallel to the fuselage and attached to the wings. Two propellers are located at the rear of the aircraft and are dedicated to forward and reverse flight. All propellers can rotate independently of each other, providing excellent maneuverability in light to gusty winds.
The production aircraft will carry four passengers with an estimated range of 200 km (124 miles) with a flight time of 60 minutes. The production aircraft is planned to be both manually piloted or flown autonomously. The company has stated in articles that the production aircraft will be using existing autonomous technology and batteries.
