I have always wanted to capture the sense of scale of a nuclear explosion with respect to something city-sized. I have seen photos of the destruction these weapons can unleash and I have watched every test video out there, but it truly difficult to wrap your head around their size and how they would impact your surroundings. So I set out to make this video. This is a proof of concept for me as I expand on Blender.
I had to take some creative liberties with respect to timescale/VFX/aesthetics due to various reasons. I mean, there is no rectangular city that is perfectly flat - and the explosion doesn't happen within 20 seconds or 1200 frames.
The important factors, like scale, building dimensions, detonation stats are all fairly accurate.
I know the video is rough around every edge. My goals are not to be a 3D artist nor just a hobbyist.
The best way to learn is to 'do', but to 'do' you have to have example projects/goals/objectives to dive in. These Blender videos are just tools for me to learn 3D assets; modeling/meshes/textures/lighting/UV/Animations/skeletal meshes/FX/Particles/etc. The tools/videos do not have to be perfect because that is not their intent, their intent is to be a playground for learning and in that purpose they have succeeded. As a side effect, they have also brought a new found respect for all digital artist out there and their contributions to movies, tv, or video games. It is extremely hard work to get it right.
