Military chaplain Vitalii Samovyk from Ukraine and entrepreneur & volunteer Yana Matviychuk met during Ukrainian Week 2024 in Washington. At this event, Chaplain Samovyk gave a brief interview to Matviychuk.
Vitalii Samovyk shared that the Armed Forces of Ukraine currently need 700 military chaplains, but there is a significant shortage. To address this, Ukraine and its foreign partners are conducting training programs for new chaplains both in Ukraine and abroad.
Many soldiers in the Ukrainian army are Christians who seek spiritual guidance to understand the meaning of life. Chaplains play a crucial role in helping these soldiers maintain their faith. Samovyk supports soldiers before they head to the frontline and after they return. He also assists wounded soldiers through their rehabilitation process. This support is essential for helping soldiers cope with the psychological and physical stress they often experience after returning from combat or hospitalization.
