Welcome to the first Episode of the Vintage Humbucker Tone Library!
What is it? An experiment. Every fortnight I will be dropping a new vintage humbucker into The Mule, a 1978 Greco Les Paul.
There are about 50 humbuckers to get through, mostly Japanese but also some US builds... Greco Scream'in 82 + Dry '82 + Xtra, Yamaha SH*T (yes real name), MMK45, MMK53, Gibson 490T, Seymour Duncan JBJ, JBG, JB (modern), Fernandes Dog Fighter. Too many to list, so please subscribe.
Please note: This is about finding out how the different pickups will sound in this rig. It's NOT about the guitar. I am controlling as many variables as I can to see what tones will come out from all the pickups being tested... I am controlling all the variables I can of the environment in this experiment.
If you're looking for a Spark Amp demo using Tone Cloud presets, these will all stay the same!
Variables controlled are:
- The guitar (Greco Les Paul EG 500)
- The strings (D'Addario XL140 10-52)
- The lead
- The amp (Positive gri Spark amp)
- Pre sets (Tone Cloud presets)
- Mic (Shure SM57 - and position + room etc)
- Scarlett Solo Interface into Protools
- Zero after effects have been added to any of this. It is what comes out.
