Starting this fall, New York City will roll out a program that requires small buildings with less than nine units to put their trash in assigned wheelie bins.
Larger buildings with more than 31 units will use the new European-style on-street containers and these will be serviced by the new automated sideloading trucks, but the new technology paraded by city officials on Thursday won't be put to use until 2025.
NBC New York's Marc Santia reports.
