0:00 - Intro
BAD:
0:26 - Expensive
As tested this car is almost $37,000 including delivery and the 400 for the paint and 400 for floor mats
So it’s not WILDLY more expensive than anything else, but the Accord is newer and hybrid, the Camry brings a V6 and simplicity and reliability, and the hyundai is just cheaper even with the hybrid. So it’s close, but just something to think about
1:15 - no hybrid
We just touched on this a bit, but you can’t buy a hybrid Altima, which is just strange. You can buy a hybrid Sonata, camry, accord. The only other competitor that doesnt offer a hybrid is the Kia K5
1:38 - smaller rear seats than competitors
This is a bit of a nitpick - i do still fit pretty well at 6’1, but technically these rear seats are smaller than several of the competitor
2:16 - No AWD
This is a bit weird because you can get intelligent AWD in the SR trim, BUT you CANT get iAWD with the VC Turbo engine here..weird
2:29 - little niggles
No pano roof option
Incandescent taillights only
Same key as my infiniti G37…from 2011
No memory seat
No cooled seat
Only driver window is auto
360 cameras are wack
No ambient light
No drive modes
-
GOOD:
3:21 - VC Turbo
This is the party piece for this car - it’s the only Altima to get the uber-powered VC-Turbo engine
It’s a 2.0T - with variable compression for power and efficiency depending on how you’re driving
248 hp 273 lbft on premium
0-60 in just under 6 sec
It’s powerful and quick, but it doesn’t come at the expense of fuel economy in the way you’d think
3:50 - Handsome
I know styling is subjective, but to me this is the Best looking midsize sedan..maybe the K5
v motion running lights
Faux fascia intakes
New Nissan logo
$400 scarlet ember tincoat
Wheel design doesn’t connect
Has SRT embossed
Same length as Camry
Chrome window treatment just on lower
Hoffmeister kink style
floating roof thing…kinda
Black wing mirror
Incandescent taillight…wack
Lots of badging
Dual exhaust, aggressive black diffuser
Molded spoiler
It’s handsome…and you can be too with new sunnies from blenders
4:47 - MPG
I know i dinged this car for not offering a hybrid, but even without it it gets good fuel economy
Rated at 25/34 mpg, but i’ve been getting over 40 mpg…not bad for all the power this thing has too
4:47 - Trunk
Nice and big
Seats fold 60/40
Temp spare - increasingly rare
5:08 - Interior
It doesn't feel as well slapped together as an Accord, but it’s still a nice place to sit now with the new big center screen
Black interior only for SR trim
With orange and white contrast stitching
Perforated leather
Zero G seats
Heated, not cooled
Vert comfy
No memory
Heated steering wheel
Flat bottom wheel - remember this is the sporty SR trim
Also gets paddle shifters
Faux carbon fiber trimming
Physical climate controls are really easy
5:55 - The drive
Behind the wheel this thing is actually really nice to drive
It’s the most powerful and most sporty, but it’s NOT a sport sedan
It’s only FWD
The steering is pretty light and numb
And the damping is fairly soft
BUT it’s not what i would consider sloppy - it’s just comfortable over sporty
The engine brings plenty of power
The CVT fakes shifts pretty well and you have paddles to pretend even further
When you floor it the CVT chooses NOT to simulate shifts, but other than that you could be convinced it’s a normal 8 speed
Your visibility is pretty good
And so are the driver assist systems
So for all those reasons it feels more like a GT sedan than a sport sedan - big power, cushy comfy ride - pretty nice!
6:56 - Tech
Desipte some of the missing things we mentioned before you still get a bunch of really nice tech features
Semi-digital cluster is fine - might want digital
12/3 in infotainment
wireless car play - base doesn’t get it. At all
360 cameras are ass - barely over half screen
native system is kinda meh
Autopilot works pretty well - prefers right lane
Wireless charger
No ambient lighting - not even LED map lights
BOSE is pretty decent
Not perfect, but perfectly acceptable during my week with the car
8 - Rear seats
Nice sized back seat - smaller end of the segment
climate vents
chargers
single pocket
no heated rear seats
Headroom?
