After a Pontiac Firebird appeared in 1977’s Smokey and the Bandit, the car’s 1979 model became the best-selling Firebird in history with two hundred eleven thousand four hundred fifty-three sold. The 1979 model also introduced a new aerodynamic front-end and full-width tail lamp treatment.

Trim levels offered were Coupe, Esprit(ES-PRE), Formula and Trans Am.

Total production for the 1979 Pontiac Firebird was two hundred eleven thousand four hundred fifty-four. Of this total, one hundred seventeen thousand one hundred eight were Trans Ams.

The 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am seen here is largely original. It still has its original six-point-six liter V8 engine, GM Turbo-Hydramatic three fifty three-speed automatic transmission, and original window stickers.

1979 marked the 10th year of the Trans Am, which Pontiac celebrated with the production of the exclusive 10th Anniversary Edition of the Trans Am.
