The city of Cleveland, Ohio is currently responding to a serious cyber incident that has forced them to take down many internal and public-facing IT systems.

As one of the largest cities in the American Midwest with over 2 million people in the metro area, Cleveland plays a major economic and logistical role in the state.

According to reports, the disruption was first disclosed yesterday when city authorities warned that public services were limited to essential operations only due to a cyber event. Further details were provided this morning through Twitter threads from the city, where they confirmed the incident is still under investigation with third party forensic experts.

Fortunately the Cleveland cyber attack did not access taxpayer information held by the CAA nor utility customer data. However, many public offices remain closed, including Cleveland City Hall and the Erieview office building.
Emergency services like 911, police, fire, EMS as well as critical utilities and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are reported to still be operational. But citizens needing documents or non-emergency services from other city departments have been asked to be patient while systems are down.
