The Human Torch debuted in the first issue of Marvel Comics, published by Timely Comics in 1939.
The being known as the Human Torch was an android invented by Professor Phineas Horton. When he unveiled the torch to the public, he burst into flames. This terrified the audience. They saw him as a monster and demanded that he be destroyed. His creator capitulated and sealed him in a concrete block but the Torch escaped.
The inexperienced Torch was unable to control his flames and accidently set fire to much of New York City. Eventually he tamed his power and vowed to help humanity.
When World War 2 erupted, the Torch went to Europe and joined Captain America, the Sub-Mariner and a sidekick named Toro to fight against the Axis powers. They formed the Invaders, then later the All-Winners Squad. Unknown to many, the Human Torch was personally responsible for the death of Adolf Hitler.
Years later, the Torch adopted the identity Jim Hammond and tried to blend in with humanity. In the 1961 Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four adopted the mantle Human Torch and carried on his heroic tradition... Flame On!
The Human Torch was created by Carl Burgos. 3d model created by John Picha.
