Cars stranded in traffic escape a fire on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 5 in the Natomas area of Sacramento, California. Someone either cut the fence or knocked it down allowing stranded motorist to escape smoke/fire that was slowly creeping up on them. This video shows motorists and pedestrians that were able to escape down a canal ravine and through a dirt field just southwest of SleepTrain Arena. The incident happened around noon on Sunday October 27th, 2019 as winds gusts were in the 50 mph range.
Thank you to Jaysen Brown who helped guide those motorist down the canal ravine and also to Devin Newsome who rushed through the field to make sure his partially paralyzed friend made it to safety. Thank you to all the motorists who stayed calm when you weren't quite sure what was going on. And a huge thank you to the person in the white utility truck that opened up that fence.
