What is Route 66? Is Route 66 the same as Interstate 40? What is Historic Route 66? Some answers!
This short film is a very brief history of Route 66. The Mother Road is surely the most iconic American highway. Now officially declassified, Historic Route 66 keeps alive those stretches that still exist. Much of the old road lies buried under Interstate 40 but where it pops up then one can still feel the excitement that drivers through the fifties and sixties felt as they crossed the country, taking in unique motels and attractions. Whilst many of those businesses now lie derelict, others thrive through attracting the worldwide legion of Route 66 fans. Driving the whole route is still on the bucket-list but at least I have now driven a famous stretch through Arizona, taking in towns such as Kingman, Valentine, Hackberry, Seligman, Winslow and Holbrook. Check out the Travel Obscurer videos "Holbrook to Twin Arrows" and "Kingman to Seligman". What is Route 66? One of the greatest road trips you will ever have!
