Early tests on the DJI Mavic Pro using the Active track mode and the Follow me mode whilst riding a mountain bike MTB.
Follow me: I need to develop some way of putting my transmitter in my rucksack without allowing for movement of the control sticks yet maintaining easy access just in case the Mavic goes off doing something weird on it's own, which it did in these tests. Luckily managed to get to controller before any damage done. I was using the 3D printed controller stick protectors/lock from ebay, tried with and without Velcro strap to hold it on but both ways still had problems. With the velcro there was no accidental movement of the sticks but when the Mavic started flying circles on it's own the velcro was difficult to get off quickly. I've thought about mounting controller on the handlebars but I'm not happy with this solution as it would ruin the shot for me????
Active Track: Worked well at lower speeds, but lost me at normal riding pace. I need to practise more and see how to get around this.
All in all, I was quite pleased with these initial tests but I must admit to being very nervous flying the drone completely solo while riding my bike. I'm not sure if I need to change the set up somehow to make it work better for me or just fly it more and get over my nerves?
