Perusing the pages of Google Images for both Greek and Roman Marble statues would have us believe that the ancient Mediterranean area was filled with white sculptures.
But that’s actually not the case.
It turns out most of the marble statues were actually painted, but time has completed stripped the pigments off. There have been some restoration projects that allows us to experience these works of art as the ancients experienced them. But if I’m going to be honest, they look a whole lot less impressive in non-mono-color form.
