demo of a highly modded upgraded Dentron DTR-2000L linear amplifier with single 8877 3CX1500A7 tube output shown on an Alpha Power 4510 wattmeter. This amp has an upgraded Peter Dahl plate transformer with 2400v 1 amp output in a full wave bridge instead of the factory 1100v .7amp voltage doubler, upgraded power supply components, and many upgraded tank components. All the issues of the original DTR-2000L have been addressed. Wimpy fan replaced with a big dayton blower, relay replaced with 2 vacuum relays, 1 for input and 1 for output. Plate choke upgraded. The band switch arc'ed thru so it was removed along with the multi band components and coils and amp was converted to a single 6 or 10 meter amp. Now with 3200v on the plate and the big blower, this amp does legal limit +++ and still runs cool. Also my first real use and demo of the ALpha 4510 3KW wattmeter I picked up. Don't know if I'm sold on it yet. Somthings I like, like NO SLUGS. Some things I don't like it has about a 1 second delay in the meter movement, the 4 digit digital peak display is not very stable when your watts are varying, the meter could be a little larger, and though I like the idea of the automatic scale selector, this also can be unstable when your watts are varying. The Bird is more stable, but you would need a ton of slugs to get the same scales and frequencies as the alpha does without any slugs. The alpha is said to be frequency compensated, so it samples your frequency and adjusts its accuracy so it can cover the total amateur bands+, 300mw to 3kw without changing a thing. Plus it is PC ready with Alphaview which I have not hooked up yet.
Update on the Dentron: The Tune capacitor would arc from time to time. Since this is now a monoband amp for 6 or 10 meters, it now needs very little capacitance from the tune cap so I added a 80pf doorknob cap in series with the air variable tune cap which gave the tune cap more voltage headroom so no more arcing, plus its easier to tune now as the capacitance is less touchy now. 2nd, a tuned input circuit was added. Input SWR is at 1.3 and now it actually does a little more with the input circuit added.
